Day 4: What's yours?

Pre-production is tonic for your brain.

TODAY Alfie talked more about the things we should take note of to include in the content of our video (interviews, interviewees, visual overlay, opening and closing) and also the style (theme, look, graphics, text, audio and script). The content of video determines the style and has only one objective.

Afterwhich, we sat in our groups and had discussion again. All of us agreed on having animation for the opening before it transits into reality (video), and then back to animation for the closing. Just to have some consistency, to have balance out the amount of video and animation. Still can't really see certain things happening. We gotta arrange for another day to meet and finalize the video. A few questions to think through: "What are we selling TP, MOI for?", "Is the life here fun/exciting/adventurous?" "Why did we pick MOI of all the other courses?"

Our concept is still developing. We'll narrow down the key theme by Monday.

Anyway, Alfie is mega cool! He was listening to punk-rock music in class! LIKE. WHAO!

Day 3: Green skies and blue fields.

A pretty relaxed day for us. A mass lecture was conducted in LT 25. All the three lecturers came together and showed us all sorts of films. Well, just the opening and ending of the films to show us the different styles and contents, so we'd have an idea of how our video should be. What to do and what not to do for our video.

The video by a group of guys all ready to conquer Mt. Everest was quite bad. But I liked the opening of the video when they introduced the guys. Other than that, everything was shaky and not very presentable. Dont know about you, but I dislike tourist video. Cloverfield is an example.

A very good example to name is the making of LOTR by National Geographic. The documentary was well-filmed with appropriate set design and camera angles. There were quite a few other good ones with a mixture of 2D and 3D animation, as well as film and animation. Another point to note is to have a suitable audio. It is important as it creates the overall mood.

I think many of us misunderstood Alan when he said that we have to do a documentary on our first year in MOI. So today, Alfie clarified that it should be a documentation of the journey we went through during our first year as MOI students but it need not be done in a boring-styled documentary. How typical. So we are free to unleash our mind-blowing, awfully yummy creative juice! Watch our cool flow, yo.

I am now clearer on the direction that we should head towards for the video.

Day 2: Oh, why, hello.

This mundane blog. I don't enjoy blogging as much anymore. 

The group gathered in class at about 1230 and settled down to discuss more about the project, each throwing in an idea. The idea which we've chosen to develop is sort of like a scene in the Harry Potter movie. I haven't got the slightest idea of how it's supposed to look like cos I've never watched Harry Potter before. It seems to have this, effect on viewers. I'm curious but yeah I am not into witchcraft. Witchcraft = evil. Okay but whatever, I'll Youtube Harry Potter later, just so I can relate what my group members were talking about.

Afterwhich, we consulted Alfie with the chosen idea. He liked the idea(I think?), but  told us that the content is not there yet. So he explained everything to us again in details. We then realised that totally forgot all about the content and paid too much attention to the style as we were more concerned of how we want to film the video. 

Three points for us to take note:

1. What is the product?
2. What does the product do?
3. Who are we doing this for?

That would be good for us to reflect on and constantly remind us to stay on the right track.

So all's still pretty shady and shaky for now. But hey, it's only the beginning. So it's cool. Oh, and one more thing! I think it'd be nice if we think of a name for our group. Gin, Jen, Shuxian and Kala, whaddya think?

Note-to-Alfie: Hello Alfie. While you were talking to some students outside class, Jen and I tried on your harry potter specs, hoping to get inspired. It was so cool.

Day 1: Introduction to MOI P1.

How's it goin'? Nice to be back here again after taking my leave for wordpress.com last April. So blogging is not something new to me since I've been doing this since 2004, or was it 3? Two issues to rant about.

Rant No. 1, I don't even update my personal blog on a daily basis and with this blog, it's an extra responsibility. I've to update this blog EVERYDAY. Which I figured, will leave me with no time to update my wordpress regularly for the next two months or so.

Rant No.2, I don't feel comfortable at the thought of lecturers reading my blog entries even though I know it is part of the grading requirement. I think? It just feels weird. But I'll still blog with my usual style.

And to the rest of the world, in case you're wondering what this is all about, this blog is specially created for the "major" project 1, which every MOI year 1s in Temasek Polytechnic have to do before they proceed on to year 2. Kinda like an exam. In a way. This project will be going on for the next eight weeks and this online production journal is for us to document on our journey throughout the making of MOI P1 video. I will talk about why the lecturers make us do this in another post (from my POV).

Okkk, enough of irrelevant ramblings. I'd better get down to serious stuff. So we were briefed on what is expected of us. The objective is to produce a video that illustrates our journey through the first year of MOI and to share our visual portfolio. Our target audience are (in respective order) students at the orientation, prospective students at the open house and our parents. Not too sure if my parents would be interested, but one thing's for sure, I'm gonna take this chance to use it as a solid proof to show them that I stayed back in school till late at the end of some blocks to get things done, not cos I went out to play and most imptly, not cos I have a boyfriend (dammit, stop assuming). Timeline has been drawn out for us and everything else clearly briefed.

We then left the lecture hall and went to our individual classes. Back in class, The Lecturer went on a bit more about the project and we formed our project group. My project group consists of Gina, Jen, Shuxian and Kala. GIRLPOWER! YAAAWWW!!! \m/

Time check, 0108. I'm typing this on a late Tuesday night so IT. IS. WEDNESDAY. MIDWEEK MIDWEEK! Okay, this is the last call. I hear the last train leaving for neverland. I have to go or I will be forever awake. Sleep well cyberworld.
